NEWSLETTER - 30 SEPTEMBER 2016

Dear parents and carers,

‘The Tempest’ workshop: On Monday Y5 enjoyed a workshop with John Brolly, reenacting Scene 2 of ‘The Tempest’, using their ideas. Y5 will continue to rehearse the scene until, on Monday 17th October, they will join with other local schools to present the whole play at The Minack Theatre. We would like to thank John for his visit which Y5 thoroughly enjoyed.

AGM-Friends of the School PTA: Thanks to all those parents who attended the Friends’ AGM on Monday and those who were unable to attend but expressed an interest. We would like to thank both Vicki Hall and Lowri Reid who stepped down from their positions as Secretary and Treasurer respectively; both have worked extremely hard whilst in post and everyone at school is very grateful for their help. Our new Secretary is Emily Swerdlow and Catherine Bolitho is our new Treasurer. Grateful thanks to them also for their offer of help and to Anna Jenkin who will continue as Chairperson. Our next meeting will be held at 2pm on Tuesday 11thOctober to discuss forthcoming events. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Year 6 PirateFM experience: On Tuesday year 6 spent some time at Humphry Davy School working with PirateFM to produce a jingle which will be entered into a competition, the winner of which will be announced next week.

Tuff Enuff? Congratulations to the hardy bunch, Morvah, Jago M, Dominic B, Jed, Ffion, Cerys, Tian and Alfie Potter who all survived the swampy pool at the end of the water slide, managed to scale near vertical high walls as well as many other hazards in order to complete last weekend’s Tuff Enuff mud race. Well done!

Parent Liaison Officer: Mrs Care is very happy to deal with any queries or concerns in her role as Parent Liaison Officer; we are aware that many parents have questions at the start of the academic year. Please contact Mrs Care for an appointment using the school telephone number 01736 810480 or email secretary@stburyanacademy.org. In consultation with your child’s class teacher and Mrs Pascoe, she is happy to discuss all aspects of school life.

E- Safety information Meeting for Parents/Carers: Parents and carers should be aware of up-to-the-minute information about internet safety to ensure internet safety for their children. It has recently been brought to our attention that a site designed for KS3 children where they video themselves as they sing, dance, lip synch etc. is being accessed by younger children, due to lack of security, and is being used for grooming purposes.

On Monday 10th October the school is hosting an E-Safety talk at 2pm in the school hall. The advice will be delivered by Jane McFall, an expert in Internet Safety.

Any old wellies? Mrs Kwiatkowska is collecting old wellies, walking boots etc. and in a variety of sizes to use as planters. Please leave any donations in the enclosed play and learning area outside Reception Class.

Stickies: Please encourage your child/ren to play with their Stickies at home as their ever increasing numbers within school are causing many problems! Thank you.

Hallowe’en Disco: Dust the cobwebs off your broomsticks and start preparing those scary costumes! This year’s ever popular Hallowe’en themed disco will be held on Friday 21st October 7-8.30pm. Admission is £2 and includes water and a Scary Snack! Costumes welcome but not compulsory but a prize for the scariest dresser!
