4th November 2016

Dear parents and carers,

EVACUATION! Years 5 and 6 had a surprise this week; to link with their work about 2nd World War they were unexpectedly ‘evacuated’ to the Telegraph Museum at Porthcurno, authentically dressed as evacuees! Mr McDonald (our tallest evacuee) has the following report: On Monday Years 5 and 6 stepped back in time when they were evacuated to Porthcurno Telegraph Museum. The trip was part of our real project based on World War 2. Children dressed as evacuees and were evacuated to the museum where we explored the World War 2 tunnels and enhanced our knowledge on the subject. We would like to thank all parents of Years 5 & 6 for keeping the trip top secret – the children had no idea what was in store! Thank you for supporting the trip and preparing such great costumes and writing sincere letters to your evacuated children! Also thanks to the Museum for welcoming us.

Fundraising Christmas Cards: This year the friends of the School are once again organizing Christmas cards and associated products based on your child’s design. It has been suggested this year that the templates necessary for this process are sent home over a weekend. Your child(ren) will have brought home this template today. Please note that designs must be on the template (a rough copy is suggested prior to using the template itself as there are no spares) and PORTRAIT designs should be made using pencil, pen or crayon. Do NOT use glitter which cannot be scanned and will be disregarded, or chalk, pastels or charcoal. Name/Class in CAPITALS. Further instructions and ideas are on the template itself. Please ensure designs are returned by NEXT MONDAY 7th NOVEMBER

Digital Parenting Magazine: A copy of this magazine has been sent home to every family today. It outlines many points raised at our recent e-safety meeting for parents including a guide to gaming, advice on social media and digital resilience. There is also advice on managing screen time, apps recommended for under 10s and advice on how to be a digital role model; as the internet is now where social dramas play out we should all be mindful of our actions online.

High 5s:

On Tuesday the High 5s Team played against Alverton. It was a much improved performance and the progress the squad is making is great to see. In a close game we lost 2-1. We created lots of chances but our only goal came from Dominic. Well done to all players – Jago M, Dominic, Edward, Morvah, Cerys, Freesha and Rose-Marie.

Cross Country League: Our next league event will be held at St Ives School next Monday 7th Nov.The team will have received details. We are currently ranked 3rd as a result of the great effort made by our runners previously so we wish the team good luck for Monday.

Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Appeal: This week we held a whole school Shoebox Assembly and considered how a ‘shoebox’ gift could be made to send to a less fortunate child. Our shoeboxes will be taken to the local collection centre at the end of next week, so there’s just enough time if you would like to donate a shoebox of small gifts with a £3 donation to cover transport costs. Any of the following items are welcome- felt pens, pencils, pens, pencil sharpeners, rubbers, picture or colouring books (no text please), stickers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs or hairbrushes, soap, flannels, hair accessories, scarves, hats, gloves, bangles, necklaces or sweets (with a sell by date of at least the end of March 2017)

Keyboard Hire: A limited number of keyboards are currently available for hire for £10/term with £20 deposit. If interested please contact the school office.

Plastic Peanut Butter Jars: Mrs K would be very grateful to receive any empty, washed peanut butter jars. They can be handed in directly at Penberth Class or at school reception.

Message to all parents from the Friends of the School: If anyone knows of any business/organization which may be willing to donate towards our forthcoming Christmas fundraiser, please contact the school office. Thank you
