NEWSLETTER 23 SEPTEMBER 2016

Dear parents and carers,

Year 5 and 6 Visit to Flambards:

On Wednesday Years 5 and 6 visited the ‘Britain in the Blitz’ exhibition at Flambards, Helston. They were greeted by a guide who took them around the ‘Britain in the Blitz’ exhibition, explaining about the different planes, bombs and other exhibits. ‘We really enjoyed reading the letters written by the evacuees from Bristol…They were writing to their teacher back in Bristol about the farm animals and helping with the harvest.’ The group is now planning their own letters, imagining themselves to be evacuees.

There was time to also visit the Victorian Village and even a few minutes to go on the rides.

AGM-Friends of the School PTA: All parents are members of the Friends of the School who organize an Autumn and Summer event to raise funds for much needed equipment that will benefit all children in school. This year we will are hoping to buy additional books for the library, which the children have requested, as well as other suggestions made by our school parliament. Anyone interested in finding out more is welcome to come along to the AGM which will be held at the school on Monday 26th Sept at 2.30pm.

Used Book Sale: Thanks to everyone who supported our used book sale. Several parents have since asked for the event to be repeated as it successfully shared around many books.

We hope to hold a sale each half term when any unwanted books can be brought into school on the day of the sale and sold affordably to raise funds for the school library.

E- Safety information Meeting for Parents/Carers: Parents and carers should be aware of up-to-the-minute information about internet safety to ensure internet safety for their children. It has recently been brought to our attention that a site designed for KS3 children where they video themselves as they sing, dance, lip synch etc. is being accessed by younger children, due to lack of security, and is being used for grooming purposes.

On Monday 10th October the school is hosting an E-Safety talk at 2pm in the school hall. The advice will be delivered by Jane McFall, an expert in Internet Safety.

Hallowe’en Disco: Dust the cobwebs off your broomsticks and start preparing those scary costumes! This year’s ever popular Hallowe’en themed disco will be held on Friday 21st October 7-8.30pm. Admission is £2 and includes water and a Scary Snack! Costumes welcome but not compulsory but a prize for the scariest dresser!
